Trane Technologies, through its businesses including Trane® and Thermo King, is hiring for a Controls Estimator II to join our team in Richmond. In this role you will work with building owners to provide estimates and quotes for HVAC Controls projects.

Monday to Thursday, work onsite with your colleagues. Fridays, choose your work location to balance your job requirements.

• Prepare cost estimates for materials, sub‑contractors, purchased equipment, labor, and other construction‑related activities to assist Account Managers in bidding or determining project prices.
• Develop detailed scope based on Account Managers’ design‑build scope or plans and specifications for competitive bidding.
• Create detailed cost estimates including system sketches, scope definition, exceptions/exclusions, preliminary proposal, vendor/sub‑contractor quotes, and points list.
• Take‑off and price purchased equipment, ensuring accuracy of quantity, size, configuration, voltage, options, etc.
• Conduct pre‑bid meetings with Account Managers to review scope, strategy, and related matters.
• Identify potential cost‑saving opportunities and risk items across projects.
• Negotiate prices with vendors/sub‑contractors to optimize job costs through quotations for materials and services.
• Assist Account Manager in determining the need for outsourced engineering involvement and work with Operations / Fulfillment group to control cost variations in labor, material, and electrical subcontract through pre‑bid validation and post‑mortem analysis.

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field with a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in estimating, engineering, construction management; or 5 to 7 years of controls field experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proven experience with Building Automation, HVAC Controls, and HVAC Systems.
• Working knowledge of all facets of construction, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems.
• Strong financial and business acumen with a history of running projects on time and on budget.
• Ability to prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines in a high‑paced environment with attention to detail.
• Experience working directly with building owners is a plus.
• Flexibility to work overtime/weekends as required.
• Valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months with no major or frequent traffic violations in the previous 3 years.

Annual Base Salary Range: $72,611.66 - $. Compensation is tailored to factors such as seniority, merit, geographic location, education, experience, travel requirements, and union designation.
