Summary/Objectives
The Universal Banker serves as a full‑service, single point of contact in the branch for South State customers’ financial needs. The position operates in the dual capacity of a Teller and a Front‑Spring Revenue (FSR) representative, providing exceptional customer service in both transactional and account management functions. The Universal Banker seeks to attract, expand, and retain customer relationships and is responsible for contributing to the financial growth of the bank.
EssentialFunctions
- Serve customers quickly, accurately, efficiently, and confidentially according to the South State Bank Service Standards.
- Know and understand the products and services offered by the bank, including facts, features, benefits, rules, regulations, price structure, and a simple definition of each service offered.
- Identify customer needs and expectations by listening for clues and seek opportunities to expand relationships by making referrals as outlined in the position’s goals.
- Present a neat and professional personal appearance in accordance with bank policy.
- Ensure compliance with all banking regulations including Regulation CC and the Bank Secrecy Act.
- Develop a strong understanding of customer‑facing technology and discuss with and enroll customers in self‑service options.
- Process transactions for savings, checking, and loan accounts.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
- Assist in guiding and training new tellers.
- Allow customers access to safe‑deposit boxes.
- Cash checks and process savings withdrawals within assigned limits and in accordance with prescribed procedures.
- Sell certified checks.
- Balance transactions daily.
- Service/ balance ATMs.
- Utilize the branch capture system.
- Follow policies and procedures for completing transactions to minimize operational errors and maintain proper workflow.
- Follow the branch’s security and audit procedures and understand the function and operation of security devices.
- Open new deposit accounts and understand the products and financial services offered by the bank. Handle other services such as stop payments, wire transfers, and other maintenance functions within assigned limits.
- Explain policies and procedures as necessary, keeping in mind most customers’ unfamiliarity with them.
- Resolve customer problems and complaints with courtesy and discretion, directing customers with difficult problems to other sources for assistance. Consider problems and complaints as opportunities to satisfy the customer and promote additional services.
- Be knowledgeable of financial services offered by the bank.
- Show sincere appreciation for each customer’s time and business; provide a business card if not already given.
- Follow the branch’s security and audit procedures and understand the function and operation of security devices.
- Ensure that branch records, reports, and other correspondence resulting from customer development attempts are correct, timely, and properly distributed.
- One year of teller or cash‑handling experience and six months of customer‑relationship building or sales experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in the Teller II and basic FSR job functions.
- Additional responsibilities may include vault responsibilities or back‑up vault responsibilities.
- Float to different offices in an area to accommodate staffing needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education:
High School diploma or equivalent. - Experience:
Cash handling, sales, and customer service. Previous banking experience preferred. - Specific Knowledge:
Good interpersonal skills, good computer skills, and the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

- Additional training may be required depending on experience.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and/or sit for long periods of time, and effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, reports, and cash denominations.
This position is most likely in an open lobby area with an individual workstation inside a cooled and heated facility.
TravelTravel may be required to attend meetings or training as needed.
Salary Range$38,518.00 – $57,778.00
