Job Overview
The Ashland Police Department (APD) is seeking motivated individuals to serve as Police Officers. APD is internationally accredited (CALEA) and committed to professionalism. The position offers a competitive salary and award‑winning benefits.
Job Duties- Respond to calls for service
- Enforce criminal and traffic codes
- Testify in court
- Complete various forms of paperwork
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid operator's license
- High school graduate or GED
- Sound financial background
- College‑level coursework and military experience highly valued
- Any felony or serious misdemeanor convictions or criminal activity indicating disregard for law or moral turpitude
- Distribution of narcotics
- Use of marijuana or THC products after the date of application
- Use of illegal substances (e.g., cocaine, heroin, LSD, anabolic steroids, Adderall when not prescribed) within last two years
- Alcohol or drug related driving convictions such as DUI
- Domestic assault conviction
- Crime of moral turpitude conviction
- Contributing to delinquency of a minor related to a sexual offense conviction
- Revoked or suspended operator’s license
- History of flagrant driving offenses (reckless driving, hit & run, failure to stop, numerous speeding offenses)
- Prior military applicants must have a full honorable discharge
- Recent, serious, or repetitive undetected crimes
- Failure to accurately report information or lack of completeness on Personal History Statement
Starting Salary: $55,199 (DCJS certified officers may receive higher starting salary based on training and experience). For 2025 schedule: $63,005 effective 7/1/2025.
