Job Summary
The Paving Machine Operator’s primary function is to operate asphalt paving machines that lay and finish asphalt. The operator may also perform manual labor such as shoveling, spreading gravel, and maintaining equipment. Daily maintenance checks are required, and any mechanical or safety issues must be reported to a supervisor. The operator may be required to perform minor repairs and is expected to assist in the general operation of each job site.
EssentialJob Duties & Responsibilities
- Uses specialized machines to spread asphalt over a surface.
- Performs minor routine maintenance on paving machines and other paving equipment and tools.
- Performs routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning prior to starting work.
- Prior to each use, evaluates the equipment and confirms that it is ready to use from a mechanical and safety standpoint.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Pass pre‑employment screening and criminal background check.
- Hold a valid driver’s license and have a clean motor‑vehicle record.
- Have previous experience operating a paver and/or other asphalt equipment.
- Ability to communicate verbally, read printed materials, signs, and directions.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, carry, and handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds and reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and ladders; balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, and navigate construction sites safely.
- Work outdoors for long periods in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
- Potential exposure to chemicals, vapors, pollutants, viruses, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines, and dust/debris.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, stooping, and bending; climbing equipment ladders to reach the operator’s seat.

Noisy environments: constantly;
Hazardous conditions: rarely;
Shift work (including overnight): constantly;
Frequent overtime, including weekends: occasionally;
