Skilled Laborer
This Skilled Laborer role supports concrete production operations by performing a wide range of hands-on tasks, including concrete work, general labor, heavy lifting, and assisting machine operators. You will work as part of a team in a structural plant environment, contributing to the safe and efficient production of concrete pipe and structures while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Responsibilities
- Perform general construction labor duties, including material handling, site cleanup, and support for various trades.
- Carry out concrete-related tasks such as mixing, pouring, placing, and finishing concrete as directed.
- Handle heavy lifting of materials, tools, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Assist machine operators throughout the production process, including preparing materials, loading and unloading, and monitoring equipment operation.
- Operate basic machinery and equipment as trained and authorized, following all safety procedures.
- Use hand tools and power tools for carpentry, concrete work, and general labor tasks.
- Measure materials accurately using a tape measure to support cutting, assembly, and installation work.
- Support carpentry-related activities, such as basic framing, formwork, and assembly of structures.
- Perform landscaping and grounds-related labor as needed to maintain a safe and orderly work site.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area by performing regular cleaning and housekeeping duties.
- Follow all safety guidelines, procedures, and instructions to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete daily production and construction goals on time.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience with construction labor tasks, including general labor and concrete work.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and physically demanding work throughout the shift.
- Experience working with concrete, including basic understanding of mixing, pouring, and handling materials.
- Proficiency using hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, and screwdrivers in a construction or industrial setting.
- Proficiency using power tools, including drills, saws, and other common construction equipment.
- Basic carpentry skills, including working with wood, forms, and structural components.
- Ability to accurately use a tape measure and perform basic measurements for cutting and assembly.
- Comfort working in a team environment and following instructions from supervisors and machine operators.
- Reliability and strong work ethic, with the ability to maintain consistent attendance and productivity.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience in construction, carpentry, or concrete production environments.
- Background in general labor roles within industrial, manufacturing, or structural plant settings.
- Experience with landscaping or outdoor labor work.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools used in carpentry and concrete work.
- Willingness to learn machine operating skills and expand into heavy equipment operation over time.
- Interest in pursuing growth opportunities in the construction industry, including potential supervisory roles.
Job Type & Location
This is a contract position based out of Ashland, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
