Maintenance Technician
The Maintenance Technician performs primarily mechanical maintenance on conveyor systems, baler machines, and box-making machines within a large distribution center. This role also requires basic industrial electrical work, including replacing 3-phase 480V motors, gear boxes, sensors, relays, and photo eyes, as well as general building maintenance such as drywall repair, painting, and plumbing. The technician supports reliable operation of packaging line equipment and facility systems through troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance.
Responsibilities- Perform mechanical maintenance on conveyor systems, baler machines, and box-making machines to ensure efficient and reliable operation.
- Carry out basic industrial electrical maintenance, including replacing 3-phase 480V motors, gear boxes, sensors, relays, and photo eyes.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain both mechanical and electrical systems across the distribution center.
- Support maintenance of all building systems and packaging line equipment, including minor forklift and conveyor system repairs.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain control wiring and electrical circuits for automated equipment.
- Work with self-automated packaging line equipment and ensure it operates safely and effectively.
- Assist with general building maintenance tasks such as drywall work, painting, and basic plumbing repairs.
- Perform preventive maintenance on industrial machinery and facility equipment to minimize downtime.
- Start up air compressors at the beginning of the shift and shut them down at the end of the shift.
- Operate, after training, scissor lifts and boom lifts to perform maintenance at height when required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in alignment with the facility's strong safety culture.
- Collaborate with operations and other departments to address equipment issues promptly and support continuous workflow.
- Hands-on experience as a maintenance technician in an industrial or distribution center environment.
- Strong mechanical skills with experience maintaining conveyor systems, baler machines, and box-making machines.
- Basic industrial electrical skills, including working with 3-phase 480V systems and related components.
- Ability to replace motors, gear boxes, sensors, relays, and photo eyes safely and accurately.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical equipment issues.
- Understanding of self-automated packaging line equipment and its maintenance requirements.
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain control wiring and electrical circuits.
- Capability to perform general building maintenance tasks, including drywall repair, painting, and basic plumbing.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices for industrial machinery.
- Comfort working with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial setting.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to established safety procedures.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a large distribution center or similar high-throughput facility.
- Familiarity with maintenance of minor forklift and conveyor system components.
- Ability to learn and safely operate scissor lifts and boom lifts after training.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple maintenance tasks and priorities.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with operations and other team members.
- Attention to detail in documenting maintenance activities and equipment status.

The facility is clean and primarily centered around conveyor systems, with dedicated areas supporting both retail locations and e-commerce operations. The work involves regular interaction with industrial equipment, packaging line machinery, and building systems, often using tools and lifts such as scissor and boom lifts after training.
The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and consistent workflow rather than high-pressure production, providing a comfortable and professional setting for daily maintenance activities.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ashland, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
