Position

Summary

JRP is seeking a hands-on, mechanically inclined Part-Time Mechanical Technician to support the maintenance, troubleshooting, and upkeep of company vehicles, fueling equipment, and related systems.

This role is broader than a traditional automotive or diesel mechanic and is ideal for someone who enjoys tinkering, troubleshooting, building, and fixing things. Responsibilities include basic vehicle maintenance, fueling equipment and pump diagnostics, Smart Tank monitoring systems, and electronic systems used in our fleet. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, enjoys working with different types of equipment, and can troubleshoot problems across both mechanical and electronic systems.

Compensation Range

Competitive hourly pay: $28-$35/hr. based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs on company vehicles, including gas and diesel trucks, roll-off equipment, and other fleet vehicles.
  • Perform routine services such as oil changes, tire rotations, and replacement of lights, headlights, and other components.
  • Troubleshoot basic mechanical issues and determine when additional repairs or outside service are needed.
  • Inspect and diagnose fuel tanks, pumps, and related fueling equipment.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Smart Tank monitoring systems and fuel diagnostic equipment.
  • Assist with troubleshooting electronic and technology systems used in company vehicles, including GPS and fuel-flow measurement systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance, and equipment issues.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance to improve equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Work with Operations and Fleet personnel to identify and address vehicle and equipment issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Perform other mechanical, maintenance, and troubleshooting projects as needed.
Eligibility Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous mechanical, maintenance, automotive (diesel/gas), manufacturing, pump, equipment, or skilled-trades experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and diagnose basic equipment issues.
  • Comfortable working with hand tools, power tools, mechanical components, and basic electronic systems.
  • Ability to learn and work with vehicle technology, fueling equipment, and monitoring systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Reliable, hands-on, and willing to learn.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in various positions while performing repairs.
  • Ability to work around vehicles, fueling equipment, pumps, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Combination of shop, fleet, fueling-site, and field-based work.
  • Regular interaction with vehicles, pumps, tanks, fueling equipment, and electronic systems.
  • May work around fuel, mechanical equipment, noise, and varying outdoor conditions.
  • Part-time schedule may vary based on fleet, maintenance, and operational needs.
