Housing in the area may be challenging to find or expensive.
Daily treatments range from 4 to 8 per round.
The patient population is mostly adults, with some pediatric cases.
The respiratory therapist will stabilize patients before transfer.
Neonates are handled up to 28 days, including attendance at high-risk C-sections to assist with positive pressure ventilation as needed.
Areas covered include the emergency room, special care unit, obstetrics with high-risk C-sections, stress lab, pulmonary function testing lab, and EEG lab.
Outpatient training and competency are dependent on contract length and availability.
Experience with mechanical ventilation, including non-invasive ventilation, is required.
Therapists should be skilled in all types of inhalation therapy, EKGs, arterial blood gases, and ISTAT.
Job duties include drawing arterial blood gases and performing EKGs using ISTAT equipment.
Setting up Holter monitors is also a responsibility.
Respiratory therapists are required to assist with intubation but are not expected to perform it independently.
The director of cardiopulmonary oversees the department.
Shifts include days and nights, with night staff working independently.
Some block schedules are available, but flexibility is essential for all staff.
Weekend coverage is needed every other weekend.
When on a block schedule, therapists must work the holiday that falls on their designated shift.
Therapists should be prepared to fill in as needed during holidays.
There is no call or standby call requirement.
Professional scrubs of any color are acceptable.
Equipment includes Hamilton C1s, Hamilton T1s, and Res Med home CPAP/BiPAP devices.
A hospitalist or intensivist is on-site during the day, with an on-call service available at night for assistance with ventilators.
Clinic physicians cover their patients in the hospital.
A single day of shadowing will be conducted for department-specific orientation.
