GENERAL

PURPOSE:

Under supervision, lead and/or participate in maintenance, repairs and upkeep of the City’s waterfront properties in order to ensure a safe and attractive environment for use by the general public. These tasks may include the operation of light equipment and requires some heavy physical labor.

SECTION A

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of operational characteristics of mechanical equipment and tools used in the area of work assigned
  • Ability and willingness to learn new tasks and be exposed to new environments
  • Shows great initiative, with ability to self-start and stay motivated while working independently, or without close supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey information clearly
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize, manage workloads and maintain accurate detailed records
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, City staff members and the general public visiting City parks and facilities
  • Must be able to understand and adapt to change and react productively to frequent interruptions and changing conditions
  • Demonstrates ethical conduct and ensures safety and security in all aspects of work

SECTION B

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma, active pursuit of one or its equivalent is required
  • Experience operating light & heavy equipment is desired

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age by the start date of employment
  • Must hold valid driver’s license, or have ability to acquire one, and possess a clean driving record

SECTION D

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs duties related to regular maintenance of trails, walkways, piers, beaches.
  • Operate Beach Groomer machine for cleaning beaches; machine is used in public areas
  • Assist with general maintenance on equipment, including refueling, changing oil, lubricating parts; making minor adjustments, as necessary.
  • Assist with maintenance of existing and construction of new park equipment (benches, tables, signs, grills, etc.).
  • Repair and maintain equipment (playground, picnic tables, trash receptacles, etc.).
  • Assist with landscaping duties including mowing, weed‑eating, trimming trees and shrubs, pulling weeds, edging lawns, raking, watering plants and trees, sweeping and clearing fallen trees, branches, leaves, fruit.
  • Collects and disposes of trash from parks and other City properties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
