Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor

Job SummaryThe Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor provides a full range of vocational rehabilitation services to eligible Native Americans with disabilities to achieve successful employment outcomes. The role requires daily attendance and the pursuit and maintenance of cooperative relationships with other agencies. This position is located in our Ashland, Wisconsin office, supporting the Bad River and Red Cliff tribal communities.
Principal Duties- Determine eligibility of Native Americans to participate in vocational rehabilitation and communicate eligibility to prospective clients.
- Provide ineligible individuals with alternative resource suggestions and complete necessary documentation.
- Develop and manage caseload in the provision of vocational and rehabilitation services to eligible Native Americans with disabilities, including vocational counseling, planning, arrangements for vocational evaluation and training, case documentation, and job placement and follow‑up.
- Gather, review and analyze clients’ medical, psychological and vocational background information, and arrange for additional vocational or psychological assessments as necessary.
- Review current job market information and evaluation data with clients to increase their understanding of available opportunities and identify the most practical employment options.
- Develop and implement an Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE) in cooperation with clients, and coordinate with other agencies necessary to implement the IPE.
- Provide ongoing vocational and personal counseling and support to assist clients in completing the rehabilitation plan, counsel them on the job search process, and contact employed clients to identify additional support needed for continued employment success.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with other public and private agencies that may provide services to individuals with disabilities.
- Contact employers within the assigned geographical area to promote the job placement of disabled individuals and develop on‑the‑job training programs.
- Complete necessary documentation for all casework activities to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, policies and procedures, and maintain a complete and accurate client file.
Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Human Services, Social Work or a related field is required, or a combination of relevant education and equivalent work experience. A minimum of two years of experience in human services is considered. Experience with a Native American Tribal organization and/or a not‑for‑profit agency is desirable.
Applicants must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, a professional demeanor and appearance, problem‑solving skills, the ability to manage time effectively, self‑motivation, ability to work effectively under pressure, build positive work relationships with internal and external customers, and interact professionally with a wide variety of people. They must also be able to apply advanced reasoning skills to problem solving, use logic in resolving computer‑related issues, follow routine instructions, perform basic math, and possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with adequate insurance.
Frequent local travel is required.
This is a full‑time exempt position working Monday through Friday, 40–45 hours per week in our Ashland, Wisconsin office. The salary range for this position is $45,000 – $48,000 annually. Benefits include annual/personal leave and holiday pay; health, dental, life & AD&D, STD and LTD insurance; and a 401(k) retirement plan.
