Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Environmental Compliance, Environmental Engineer

Responsibilities and Duties- Safely and effectively operate, maintain, monitor and/or control all water treatment plant equipment and processes, including plant generators, electrical controls and various distribution system equipment.
- Ensure that daily work complies with Ohio EPA and Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) regulatory requirements for operations.
- Ensure that daily work complies with all established company safety policies.
- Capture all work performed in the Maintenance Connection asset management program per company policies.
- Directly, and/or via SCADA system, operate, maintain, read, interpret, and record as directed all instruments at the plant and remote locations.
- Make adjustments to treatment and/or pumping to maintain water quality and quantity standards.
- Monitor and control the SCADA system for effective operation of the Ashtabula water system.
- React accordingly to various pumping schemes, main breaks, and operational changes and advise supervisors on potential emergencies.
- Perform assigned lab testing (wet chemistry) and sampling as directed in accordance with Ohio EPA certification requirements.
- Perform assigned inspections of water treatment plant apparatus and equipment as directed.
- Assist the Division Mechanic with routine and emergency maintenance of facilities as required.
- Communicate records and maintain relevant information regarding treatment plant operation and maintenance.
- Perform housekeeping duties as assigned, and ensure the security of water utility structures and property.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and regularly address internal and external customer requirements; serve as after‑hours dispatch for emergencies within the system and diagnose issues appropriately.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Candidate must hold a valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Must be available to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, and for scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
- Must be proficient at using computer/tablet Windows‑based applications.
- Must hold an OEPA Class I Water certificate or obtain one within the specified timeframe (2 years).
- Must obtain a provisional Laboratory certification within 2 months and an Operational Laboratory certification within 6 months after receipt of the provisional certificate.
- Must hold a Class II Ohio EPA Water Certificate for 4 years.
- Must have a satisfactory work record (no more than one disciplinary occurrence in the last three years).
- Company may require the employee to pass reasonable tests – oral, written, or practical – to determine qualifications.
