Ashtabula County Job & Family Services
Interviews applicants to determine initial eligibility and to re-determine ongoing eligibility for Public Assistance through telephone or office interviews; computes applicant complex budgets; verifies documentation submitted to support requests for assistance; reads and understands legal and financial documents (trusts, tax records, mutual fund statements, contracts, life insurance policies, real property sales; and guardianship custody and support orders); assists with completion of applications;
conducts screening of applicants; approves or denies applications, determines eligibility within mandated time frames; explains applicant rights and responsibilities, procedures, programs, and other available services; refers applicants to other units of the Agency or Social Service programs or Agencies; safeguards IEVS materials and follows HIPPA guidelines. Investigates complaints concerning lost, stolen, or undelivered public assistance benefits; advises investigative unit of suspected fraud or over-issuance;
assists with completion of appeal forms; prepares case summaries; appears at hearings, as necessary. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
Completion of secondary education or equivalent (high school diploma or GED); related experience and/or training preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

- ODJFS computer systems; state and federal regulations;
- Ohio Revised Code (applicable sections); public relations; customer service; office practice and procedures; children/social service laws and/or regulations; case management; social services policies, programs, rules, and regulations.
