– Duties & Responsibilities (The duties listed are not all-inclusive but represent essential functions of the role.)Role Overview As an EMT with Community Care Ambulance, you provide high-quality basic life support (BLS), patient care, and safe transportation in pre-hospital settings. Working as part of an emergency medical team, you respond to dispatched calls, assess patient conditions, administer care within your scope of practice, and ensure safe, efficient transport.
Patient Care & Customer Service (80%)Deliver care that meets or exceeds National BLS Standards and Community Care Ambulance protocols
Assess, treat, and stabilize patients in emergency and non-emergency situations
Administer first aid and basic life support care within scope of practice
Perform approved diagnostic and treatment procedures per protocol
Communicate effectively with dispatch, hospitals, and team members
Provide compassionate, patient-centered care and reassurance
Safely assist with patient movement, lifting, and transport
Operate and maintain medical equipment (AEDs, oxygen, BVMs, etc.)Maintain, clean, and restock vehicles and equipment
Follow infection control and decontamination procedures
Patient Documentation (10%)Complete accurate and timely patient care reports (PCRs)
Document patient assessments, treatments, and responses
Daily Preparedness (5%)Ensure ambulance, equipment, and supplies are response-ready
Training & Meetings (5%)Attend required trainings and staff meetings
Participate in ongoing education and skill development
Additional Responsibilities Assist with patient transfer and provide clear handoff reports to receiving facilities
Support scene operations, including safety awareness and crowd management when needed
Maintain communication with dispatch throughout calls
Qualifications
Minimum Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of a state-approved EMT training program meeting or exceeding current National Standard Curriculum requirements
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Required Certifications & Licensure Current Ohio EMT certification (or National Registry EMT, as applicable)
Valid Driver’s License Current CPR certification
First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire if applicable)
Knowledge Basic life support (BLS) care, including CPR and first aid Foundational emergency medical principles, patient assessment, and emergency response protocols
Safe patient handling and medical transportation practices
Customer service and patient-centered care principles
Medical terminology, documentation standards, and communication practices
