Door Shop Technician
Department: Door Shop
Reports To: Production Superintendent
FLSA Status: Hourly
Position SummaryThe Door Shop Technician is responsible for the preparation, modification, and assembly of door units to meet production specifications and customer requirements. This role operates specialized equipment including the High Point Saw, performs manual door cut‑down processes, and completes pre‑hung door assembly while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Operate and maintain the High Point Saw to accurately cut doors and components to required specifications.
- Read and interpret production tickets, work orders, and measurements.
- Ensure proper setup and calibration of saw equipment prior to operation.
- Monitor blade condition and report maintenance needs promptly.
- Maintain clean and organized work area around saw station.
- Follow all safety protocols when operating cutting equipment.
- Perform manual door modifications and cut‑downs to specified dimensions.
- Measure, mark, and verify accurate cuts before processing.
- Inspect doors for defects prior to and after modification.
- Ensure finished products meet Plastpro quality standards.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Operate CNC equipment for door machining including hinge prep, lock prep, and specialty routing.
- Load door programs and verify correct job specifications prior to operation.
- Perform basic machine setup and material placement.
- Monitor machine cycles to ensure accuracy and quality output.
- Inspect machined components for accuracy and quality compliance.
- Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance tasks.
- Assemble pre‑hung door units including frame preparation, hinge installation, and hardware placement.
- Ensure proper alignment, squareness, and functionality of assembled units.
- Install weather stripping, thresholds, and additional components as required.
- Conduct quality inspections prior to final staging.
- Prepare completed units for packaging and shipment.
- Maintain compliance with all company safety policies and OSHA standards.
- Wear required PPE including steel‑toe footwear and safety glasses.
- Maintain productivity standards and meet daily production goals.
- Assist in other areas of the department as needed.
Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or quality concerns to supervision immediately. - Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prior manufacturing or woodworking experience preferred.
- Ability to read tape measures accurately.
- Basic math and able to read a tape measurer.
- Ability to operate power tools and machinery safely.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
- Team‑oriented with strong work ethic.
- Manufacturing/production environment.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and moving machinery.
- Requires standing, lifting, bending, and repetitive motion throughout shift.
