Water Distribution Technician
Department: Ashtabula County Environmental Services – Water Department
Immediate Supervisor: Water Superintendent
Pay Grade / Rate: Pay Grade 9: $46,661.47 to $48,994.54 annually.
Posting Dates: January 22, 2026, to February 5, 2026, or until candidate is found.
Compensation: within this range will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications. Plus, a comprehensive benefit package.
- Installs, maintains, reads, and repairs water distribution systems and related appurtenances.
- Inspects and repairs water service connections to mains, tests and inspects backflow devices, and assists with the backflow prevention program.
- Responds to service calls, troubleshoots system issues, and performs emergency repairs related to water lines, valves, and service connections.
- Locates water mains and related infrastructure for maintenance, repair, and utility coordination purposes.
- Operates equipment used in the construction, repair, and maintenance of water mains and service lines, including service trucks, jackhammers, power saws, drills, backhoes, dump trucks, pumps, and related tools.
- Exercises system distribution valves, performs system flushing, tests, and maintains fire hydrants.
- Performs basic maintenance of County water distribution facilities, including booster pump stations, pump motors, and electrical components (up to 480V/3-phase).
- Maintains daily operational logs and required documentation.
- Maintains required licenses and certifications applicable to the position.
- Complies with all job safety requirements and applicable OSHA safety standards.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures; workplace safety practices; water facility operating procedures and regulations; water distribution system construction, maintenance, and repair; mechanical maintenance; and proper lifting techniques.
Skilled in heavy equipment operation; use of potable water testing instruments and materials; use of mechanic’s tools and equipment; and use of modern office equipment and record-keeping systems.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTSMust possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and maintain insurability under the County’s vehicle insurance policy. Must maintain or obtain required water-related licenses and certifications as required by the position. Must be able to successfully pass a post-offer drug screen, physical examination, and BCI fingerprint background check.
