Overview

The Deli/Bakery Clerk is responsible for stocking, cleaning, and maintaining the deli and bakery sections of Fresh Thyme Farmers Market. The position requires a friendly, energetic demeanor and adherence to Food Service Department procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure cleanliness of deli/bakery cases, storage area, and work area for safety, including cleaning shelves, keeping floors free of spills, removing hazardous debris, and sweeping.
  • Stock deli/bakery cases; present products, face, fill, and organize items per schematics, ensure tag and pricing accuracy.
  • Examine rotation of all products, paying attention to expired stock and discarding outdated or spoiled items.
  • Respond positively to customer inquiries and assist with purchases, information, and product selection; sell and cross‑sell products.
  • Receive, inspect, and log incoming products for shipment accuracy, temperature, and quality.
  • Monitor point‑of‑purchase signs, ensuring availability of recipe cards, product coupons, promotional material, and complimentary food information.
  • Operate and use equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
  • Prepare various deli/bakery items with appropriate ingredients and cooking times.
  • Accurately weigh and label products using scales and weight measures.
  • Participate in pre‑inventory preparation, back‑stocking, and ensuring tags match products.
  • Maintain high level of product knowledge and preparation.
  • Walk department regularly to ensure organized, sanitary, and clean appearance at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred 1–2 years grocery retail experience in food service department processes and procedures.
  • Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Maintain highest level of customer service at all times.
  • Adapt to ever‑changing high‑volume retail while working in a cross‑functional team.

  • Capable of cutting and weighing meats, salads, and cheeses.
