Job Title: Art Educator I/II

Department: Red Brick Center for the Arts

Classification: intermittent, non-exempt

Pay Range (depending on experience):

  • Art Educator I: $30.99/hour - 37.29/hour
  • Art Educator II: $37.49/hour - 45.00/hour

Position Summary: Plans and teaches youth/adult art class(es) at the Red Brick Center for the Arts.

Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the general direction of the Arts Programming Coordinator.

Art Educator I:
Essential Job Functions

  • Class Planning and Preparation with support from the Arts Programming Coordinator
  • Plans projects for art class(es) specific to age group and art medium designated
  • Creates a supply list and/or reading list appropriate for art class(es)
  • Writes a summary and description of the class(es)
  • Instruction and Student Support
  • Creates an enjoyable, engaging, and safe learning environment
  • Teaches participants with a range of skill levels and tailors instructions for each student
  • Assists and guides participants through the art making process and techniques while offering encouragement
  • Upholds safety standards for use of materials
  • Possesses interpersonal skills including understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, and politeness to others; relates well to people from varied backgrounds
  • Classroom Management
  • Maintains an organized and clean classroom and equipment
  • Cleans up materials, tidy up the room, and puts supplies away at the end of class
  • Prepares the classroom and class expectations with support from the Arts Programming Coordinator
  • Maintains and demonstrates time management
  • Parent/Guardian Communication and Team Collaboration with Support from the Arts Programming Coordinator (Youth Classes)
  • Answers questions and is available during drop-off and pick-up times
  • Communicates daily with parents and guardians about the class schedule and student activities
  • Handles disciplinary issues with support from the Arts Programming Coordinator
  • Counts students at the beginning and end of each activity
  • Fills out accident reports or behavior reports as needed
  • If applicable, provides direction to Arts Camp Counselors to assist with class operations and student support

Art Educator II: Includes all responsibilities of Art Educator I, as well as advanced planning, leadership, and program development duties.

  • Independently plans projects for art class(es) specific to age group and art medium designated
  • Creates a supply list and/or reading list appropriate for art class(es)
  • Writes a summary and description of the class(es)
  • Develops program goals and class curriculums
  • Assists in developing seasonal class offerings and strategic planning
  • Mentors new educators or assists with onboarding
  • May lead professional development workshops or curriculum design efforts
  • Provides feedback to the Arts Programming Coordinator on curriculum effectiveness and participant needs
  • Classroom Management
  • May supervise or support Arts Camp Counselors in more complex situations
  • Handles disciplinary issues
  • Prepares and clearly communicates class expectations
