Position Title: Middle School English Language Arts Teacher
Department: Aspen Middle School
Reports to: Aspen Middle School Principal
Classification: Certified Full-time Exempt
Contract Period: 9 Month (185 days with some variance depending on the year)
Salary: Certified Salary Schedule ($59,400 to $95,753)
Signing Bonus: $1,500.00 (prorated based on FTE)

Position SummaryThe English Language Arts teacher instructs one or more classes of English to students in Middle School, strengthening students' reading comprehension, grammar, and writing proficiencies and providing the skills necessary to appreciate and critique literature. This teacher also assists in other school programs as assigned by the school principal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Demonstrate knowledge of the content area of English language, literature and composition, and reading and writing, including understanding how learning occurs and appropriate cognitive, social, emotional development for adolescents.
- Establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students, fostering independent thinking and original expression.
- Facilitate learning for all students, guiding and challenging them with varied instructional methods, including technology integration, promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, exploration, and leadership.
- Take responsibility for student academic growth using a variety of assessments and ongoing improvement of instructional practices.
- Reflect on teaching practices, analyze student learning, development, and growth, and apply learnings to improve instruction.
- Demonstrate leadership, advocate for the school and students, and exhibit high ethical standards.
- Show enthusiasm for collaboration, using a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) with administrators, teachers, and support staff.
- Communicate effectively with parents and community members.
- Collaborate with colleagues and community to enhance the teaching profession.
- Engage in experiential education beyond the classroom.
- Identify student needs and collaborate with staff to address health, attitude, and learning challenges.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Communicate with parents and counselors on student progress.
- Participate in curriculum and district-level programs.
- Support student activities and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Coordinate paraprofessionals or student teachers and monitor standardized tests.
- Ensure full attendance, punctuality, and presence on contracted workdays.
- Adhere to substitute plan preparation and submission when absent.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Self-management: organization, preparation, punctuality, resource management, deadline compliance, professional appearance.
- Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Colorado Department of Education teaching credential in English Language Arts for grades 7-12.
- Consistently act in support of the missions of Aspen Middle School and the Aspen School District.

- Current, initial, or professional Colorado teaching license with endorsement in English Language Arts Grades 6-12, or be eligible within 3 months of hire.
- International Baccalaureate experience, MA in English or related field, 3+ years of middle‑school ELA teaching; experience with IB teaching, tutoring, or examinations.
- Office environment; exposure to computer screens.
- Generally clean and comfortable surroundings.
Physical Requirements
- Capacity to lift up to 20 lbs, carry, push, pull, stoop, kneel, sit, stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions with computer work.
