Job Description

Position Title: Middle School Math Teacher

Department: Aspen Middle School

Reports to: Middle School Principal

Classification: Certified Full-time Exempt

Contract Period: 9 Month (185 days with some variance depending on the year)

Salary Range: Certified Salary Schedule

Signing Bonus: $1,500.00 (prorated based on FTE status)

Position Summary

This position will focus on student growth and achievement in 5th Grade mathematics, science, and reading (math focus). The teacher will create a supportive, positive class environment, establishing rapport with students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed as a solid foundation for 5th grade education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Facilitate learning for all students using a variety of instructional methods, integrating technology to develop critical thinking, problem‑solving skills, and leadership qualities.
  • Reflect on teaching practices and analyze student learning to improve instruction.
  • Organize, prepare, and manage resources; meet deadlines and demonstrate professional appearance.
  • Act consistently in ways that support the school's and district's missions.
  • Use strong verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Develop and maintain rapport with adolescents and adults through courtesy, diplomacy, and collaboration.
  • Formulate measurable goals that align with the organization’s strategic theme.
  • Contribute to team success through collaboration, cooperation, and flexibility.
  • Maintain high ethical standards, legal responsibility, and confidentiality.
  • Ensure full attendance on contracted workdays; arrive on time and remain for the entire day.
  • Be present and actively engaged during scheduled workdays, observing holidays, breaks, and professional development days.
  • Notify school personnel in advance of anticipated absences; follow district leave procedures and provide documentation when necessary.
  • Prepare and submit substitute plans in case of absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Expertise in Colorado Academic Standards/Common Core Standards for elementary math education.
  • Establish support, inspiration, and respect with a diverse student population.
  • Facilitate learning using various instructional methods and technology.
  • Reflect on teaching practices and apply improvements.
  • Demonstrate leadership and high ethical standards.
  • Utilize formative assessments to drive student growth.
  • Willingness to learn new information.
  • Enthusiasm for collaboration using the MTSS framework.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and community members.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree
  • Eligible to obtain a Colorado Teaching License in Middle School Education within the first 3 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CDE Secondary or Middle School Math endorsement
  • Master’s degree
  • Previous middle school math teaching experience
  • Experience with IB Programme Standards and Practices, including units of inquiry curriculum development, instruction, and assessment.
  • Spanish Bilingual proficiency
Work Environment

Physical demands include some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, and significant fine motor skills. The job is performed in a generally clean and comfortable environment.

Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, squatting, standing, reaching, sitting, walking, stooping, occasional climbing, and repetitive motion.
