Position SummaryA special education paraprofessional, under general supervision, provides assistance to a classroom teacher by performing a variety of tasks related to the physical and instructional needs of students in a classroom setting; assists in implementing instructional programs, including self-help and behavior management, as well as instruction. The special education paraprofessional performs related duties as required or assigned.
RequirementsResponsibilities and Duties:
- Carries to completion in a timely manner instructional and supportive activities as assigned by the supervising teacher
- Work with special education students supporting academic and behavioral needs
- Establish and maintain open communication with administrators, teachers, and support staff
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
- Participate in staff development activities where it is necessary to improve job-related skills
- Exhibits ability to work effectively without supervision
- Possesses a passion for education and a commitment to serving children
- Remains focused on excellence with humility and a service-oriented demeanor
- Possesses the ability to handle crisis management situations with urgency, calm and clear thinking
- Upholds unquestionable integrity and ethical personal behavior
- Demonstrates personal growth and professional development
- Maintains records and prepares detailed reports (as needed)
- Exhibits consistent, punctual, and regular attendance
- Demonstrates superior relationship skills

- Ability to perform several tasks concurrently under varying deadlines
- Ability to exercise tact, good judgment, and initiative in dealing with students, faculty, and the public
- Skill in operating computers, copiers, iPads, etc.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Able to identify sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to follow directions given by the Principal and Teacher
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policy, and expectation documents, staff agreements, and evaluation rubric documents
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, parents, staff, teachers, and school administrators
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Flexible and supportive work philosophy with a willingness to take direction
- Willingness to implement and enforce policies as intended and put into place by the Board of Directors
- Problem-solving skills
- Must pass a CBI and FBI background check
- Successful experience in similar environments.
The Special Education Paraprofessional shall be an At-Will employee, which shall mean that the employee or the school may terminate employment at any time, with or without cause. The Special Education Paraprofessional shall be evaluated annually by the Principal or designee.
