Description

The occupational therapist shall be directly responsible to the building principal(s) for the performance of assigned duties. The occupational therapist's primary responsibility is to provide occupational therapy services in an educational setting that will address the individual needs of each student, be integrated throughout the environments in which students function, be educationally relevant, be determined by local eligibility guide liners, and be coordinated with the IEP team.

Qualifications

The occupational therapist must have a current and valid license as an Occupational Therapist by the Illinois Department of Registration and Education.

Responsibilities
  • Consults, collaborates and in-services problem solving teams.
  • Evaluates skills in relation to mobility, strength and endurance, joint range of motion, gross and fine motor, visual-motor integration, motor planning, sensory processing, oral-motor control and communication (as it applies to adaptive equipment).
  • Assists in classification and placement decisions by performing assessment of developmental and environmental functioning, using standardized testing and observation skills.
  • Updates, reviews, and revises goals and objectives necessary.
  • Monitor and evaluate therapy programs using observation, data and/or pre-posting testing.
  • Monitor and report student performance and progress via written and verbal reports.
  • Instruct parents, teachers, aides or other appropriate personnel to implement motor programs, strategies, and techniques aimed at improving student functioning.
  • Work cooperatively and communicate appropriately with teaching staff, support staff, parent, outside services, and health professionals (as appropriate/authorized).
  • Determines placement settings and therapy time required for carrying out goals and objectives.
  • Maintains current accepted competencies by attending professional workshops, courses, conferences and in-services.
  • Complete required reports, IEP's and other forms promptly and in an acceptable manner.
  • Obtain and maintain current physician prescriptions.
  • Maintains an inventory of equipment and materials.
  • Maintains ethical standards as required by the national and state professional organizations and the District.
  • Attend staff meetings in appropriate subgroups and serve on committees as directed or appropriate.
  • May include travel between schools.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
