Theatre Aspen, the award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Colorado mountains, is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Director of Development to join our team. Situated in one the most beautiful destinations in the world, Theatre Aspen is the region’s most celebrated theatrical institution and has been a fixture of the community for over forty years, attracting a long litany of renowned performers.
The Assistant Director of Development will work on a range of programmatic and fundraising initiatives to support Theatre Aspen's efforts to raise $3.5M annually and prepare for a possible $50-60 million capital campaign. The position can be based full-time in Aspen or NYC but requires six months of the year to be spent working in Aspen.
The Assistant Director of Development will join our three-person development team. This individual will provide support to Director of Development and will work in tandem with the Director of Special Events to effectively deliver the day-to-day operations of the department. The ideal candidate will be exceptionally detail oriented, have a background in fundraising, a passion for theater, a working knowledge of non-profit operations and experience with a donor tracking database such as Patron Manager.
The person in this position may be based in New York City or in Aspen, CO.
If based in New York, they will be required to relocate to Aspenfrom roughly Memorial Day to Labor Day (travel and housing provided by Theatre Aspen).
If based in Aspen, there may be one or two trips to New York City per year. If relocating to the Roaring Fork Valley, a housing subsidy is available as part of the compensation package.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Development and Donor/Donation Management
- Work closely with Director of Development on the research, planning, and execution of all fundraising campaigns.
- Monitor and process online contributions with Patron Manager and maintain accurate, up-to-date database records.
- Send timely acknowledgements and thank you notes to donors who have contributed.
- Conduct donor research and new fund sourcing.
- Significant correspondence with donors via phone and email.
- Assist in management of membership programs.
- Create data analysis reports to assist in tracking donor metrics.
- Track and fulfill pledges as needed.
- Keep up to date mailing lists to assure accuracy of segments.
Special Events:
- Support planning and execution of Theatre Aspen’s annual gala with Director of Events and Director of Development.
- Support and attend membership events, such as our National Council Appreciation Nights and Producer’s Luncheons.
- Collaborate with Director of Development in the planning, organizing, and management of the annual NYC Broadway Adventure member trip in November.
Grants:
- Conduct grant research and new foundation sourcing.
- Assist in narrative development and execution of grants.
- Assist in grant tracking and reporting as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills, written communication skills, and phone etiquette.
- Extremely organized with a sharp attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in both a relationship-building and administrative capacity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience in arts administration preferred.
- Experience with Salesforce, Patron Manager or similar CRM preferred.
Salary range for this position is $65-72k plus extensive benefits, life insurance and 401k. Some weekend and evening hours required.
