Job Title: Natural Resources Technician

Department: Parks and Open Space

Classification: Non-exempt, seasonal

Season Dates: May 4, 2026 - Nov. 1, 2026

Pay Rate: $24.00 per hour

Position Summary: The City of Aspen Parks & Open Space Department seeks a motivated and detail-oriented individual to support the City’s Natural Resources Program. This position plays a key role in assisting with the management of wildlife, invasive species, and the urban forest within City limits. The ideal candidate is able to work independently, collaborate effectively with a team, and engage positively with the public while working primarily in outdoor environments.

Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the supervision of the Natural Resource Manager. This position is non-supervisory.

Essential Job Functions:

Natural Resources Support
  • Supports the Natural Resources Program in the areas of wildlife management, invasive species control, and urban forestry.
  • Under general supervision, works as part of a team to assist the Wildlife Coordinator with field-based monitoring to assess the location, activity, and condition of wildlife within City limits.
  • Assists with public outreach and education efforts related to wildlife awareness and environmental stewardship.
  • Responds to emergency wildlife situations, which may include animals that are trapped, injured, or deceased, and assists with appropriate response actions.
Code Enforcement and Patrol
  • Patrols alleyways, neighborhoods, and City properties to identify and document violations of municipal codes related to wildlife attractants.
  • Provides education to the public regarding code compliance and supports enforcement actions when necessary.
Vegetation and Invasive Species Management
  • Assists with vegetation management and weed control efforts, which may include manual, chemical, and/or biological control methods within restoration zones and City-owned properties.
Customer Service and Professional Conduct
  • Supports positive relationships between local government and the public by demonstrating courteous, respectful, and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff.
  • Performs duties with attention to detail and demonstrates the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
