Position Summary

The Facilities Specialist II is a highly skilled technician responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing facility equipment, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and infrastructure across multiple parks, recreation, arts, and golf facilities. This role requires specialized technical knowledge, certifications, and/or licenses in electrical, mechanical, controls, and industrial refrigeration systems, as well as the ability to manage third‑party contractors.

Essential Job Functions Daily Operations
  • Works in a team environment to manage daily building operations and ensure safe, efficient, and clean facilities.
  • Conducts regular inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and system issues.
  • Monitors, operates, and troubleshoots building systems to maintain reliable performance.
  • Manages vendor work, including coordination, oversight, and quality verification.
  • Leads preventative maintenance and facility improvement projects to enhance safety, efficiency, and usability.
Electrical Work
  • Installs, programs, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide range of control systems, including DDC Building Management, lighting, refrigeration plant controls, PLCs, and more.
  • Works with 3‑phase, 480V equipment, transformers, switch gear, motor control centers, and standard power distribution components.
  • Installs, programs, and repairs electro‑mechanical devices such as motors, starters, compressors, pumps, refrigeration and chemical controls, valves, transducers, meters, sensors, relays, lighting circuits, alarms, access control devices, and other facility components.
  • Calibrates and standardizes sensitive electronic equipment including pressure transmitters, ammonia and gas detection units, chemical feeders, oxygen concentrators, ozone generators, and other management instruments.
  • Uses specialized tools such as Megger testers, scopes, power quality monitors, tachometers, and IR detectors.
  • Maintains integrity and functionality of plant and safety systems.
  • Leads, interprets, and creates wiring diagrams and schematics as needed.
Specialized Technical Responsibilities
  • Performs diagnostic, maintenance, and repair work across five parks and facilities, ensuring alignment with the city’s values and mission.
  • Applies specialized skills and certifications in areas such as mechanical or electrical engineering, journeyman’s or master’s electrical licenses, low‑voltage electrical and controls work, ladder logic, controls programming, industrial ammonia refrigeration, and more.
Commercial and Industrial Refrigeration Systems, HVAC
  • Maintains and repairs commercial and industrial refrigeration and HVAC systems, including associated controls and safety devices.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and operational checks to ensure efficiency and reliability.
  • Responds to alarms, equipment failures, and service requests.
  • Reads and follows schematics, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Utilizes specialized tools such as ammonia monitors, manifold gauge sets, vacuum pumps, and leak detectors.
Mechanical
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, and upgrades machinery including air compressors, steam generators, ozone generators, vacuum units, and more.
  • Uses specialized tools such as gear pullers, bearing presses, hydraulic presses, and torque wrenches.
Machinist / Shop
  • Performs machining, fabrication, welding, and repair work to support facility operations.
  • Fabrics or modifies parts, fixtures, and components using granite surface plates, micrometers, and other precision tools.
  • Maintains shop equipment and work areas in a safe condition.
  • Reads blueprints and performs layout, fixturing, and fabrication tasks.
Plumbing
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing fixtures, hydronic heating systems, and more.
  • Uses tools such as pipe milling equipment, pipe cutters, brazing torches, and flaring tools.
