General Description
In alignment with NWRESD's mission, this position provides educational programs and/or consultations to parents and community preschools, and meets the individual needs of children with disabilities and/or special needs from birth to five years of age. The role operates on a highly varied schedule to plan and organize activities that teach children with special needs, counsel parents, assess progress, and maintain required records.
Activities include teaching in self-contained classrooms, home visits, family coaching, parent education, multidisciplinary team meetings, curriculum development, preparing Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), and assessment of program effectiveness.
Qualifications
Current Oregon Teaching License through TSPC in early childhood, elementary, special education, or related field; or ability to obtain license within the timeline specified by the district.Previous experience working with children with special needs.Valid Driver's License; available transportation and proof of auto insurance.Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.Professionalism and effective human relations.Regular communication with immediate supervisor.Proficiency in computer and internet-based applications, including email, internet software, Google Suite, and Microsoft Word.Working knowledge and experience with development and implementation of IFSPs.Effective communication with students, parents, school personnel, and mental health personnel.Experience and ability to utilize strategies in managing students.Essential Functions
A. Assess children for cognitive, personal-social, and adaptive development; work with a transdisciplinary team, including family, to develop and implement IFSPs and assess progress.B. Provide an appropriate environment to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum across cognitive, social, play, language, gross motor, fine motor, self‑help, and behavior through baby groups, toddler groups, and inclusive preschool classes.C. Provide consultation, education, and support to parents via home visits, day‑care visits, and community preschools for children with special needs, and to community preschool and child‑care providers regarding the needs of those children.D. Occasionally provide in‑service or training to school staff, parents, or community providers.E. Perform case‑management duties, including reviewing a child's eligibility, preparing team reports, developing and preparing IFSP goals and documents, maintaining required records, and collaborating with community providers such as medical and social services.F. Provide direction, training, and oversight to educational assistants.G. Perform other duties as assigned.Note:
