About the Role
As the first point of contact for most clients, Tellers play a key role in delivering on the bank’s Breakthrough Client Service Standards. With guidance from the Branch Manager and Assistant Branch Manager, the Teller’s primary responsibility is to ensure banking transactions are performed accurately, ethically, and in compliance with Columbia Bank procedures and banking regulations.
The Teller role is also responsible for maintaining and enhancing client relationships through meaningful conversations that uncover client needs and identify opportunities to provide additional bank products and services. The Teller performs teller transactions and cash handling functions for clients with accuracy and confidentiality, including:
- Deposits, withdrawals, cash advances, payments, and transfers
- Check cashing, balancing cash drawer, and other daily cash duties
- Double custody for the ATM, processing night drop deposits, balancing negotiable instruments, and processing returned mail
- Balancing the credit card machine, updating lobby rate sheets and brochures
They mitigate risk by ensuring safekeeping of money in the cash drawer and prompt accounting or transfer of funds. Interacting with external and internal clients, Tellers anticipate needs and consistently provide proactive solutions and problem resolutions in alignment with the bank’s Breakthrough Client Service Standards. They continuously deepen knowledge of Columbia Bank’s product and service offerings, stay current on changes, discuss and uncover customer’s financial needs, and identify and offer appropriate products and services.
They also support referral goals for the branch by focusing on and referring basic bank products to the appropriate business partner.
- High School Diploma or GED, required.
- At least 1 year of previous banking or customer service experience preferred.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Ability to learn and comply with all Bank policies, procedures, and systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy with written numbers, words, and verbal and written instructions.
- Consistently demonstrates ability and willingness to build relationships with clients and other bank associates.
The pay range for this role is $18.00 - $22.00 per hour, depending on a variety of non‑discriminatory factors including job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, education, and geographic location. The role may be eligible for performance‑based incentive compensation, which will be provided during the recruitment process.
Primary Location1122 Duane Street, Astoria, OR 97103. Ability to work fully onsite at the posted location is required.
