General Duties

In alignment with the NWRESD's mission statement, this position evaluates and administers physical therapy services to students with physical limitations. Assists students in achieving physical and functional independent access to the educational system within their physical limitations.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from a CAPTE-accredited Physical Therapy education program or equivalent
  • Licenses/certificates as determined by the ESD, including state license to practice physical therapy in the state of Oregon.
  • Experience and/or ability to supervise licensed physical therapist assistants
  • Valid Driver's License; available transportation and proof of auto insurance.

  • Confer regularly with immediate supervisor

  • Skillfully utilize educational technology and software as required by the position
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in professional development activities
  • Essential Functions
    • Work as a team member with general education staff, families, and special education staff in support of the educational program.
    • Actively participate as a member of IEP/IFSP teams in planning goals and educational programs for individual students.
    • Provide professional input and expertise to the IEP/IFSP team in determining eligibility for special education and need for physical therapy as a related service, developing IEP or IFSP goals and objectives for each eligible student, and recommending service levels.
    • Develop and implement a plan of care for individual students based on functional/developmental skill evaluations and other assessments.
    • Work to facilitate safety, access, and participation in the educational environment for all students on the Physical Therapist's caseload via implementation of accommodations, modifications, and training of school personnel.
    • Provides direct instruction in functional skills to assist the student and team in meeting IEP or IFSP goals; provides demonstration, training, and coaching to staff and families.
    • Select, fit, and facilitate the use of equipment related to positioning or mobility. Provide family/staff training for safe use of therapeutic equipment.
    • Assist in maintaining a safe orthopedic equipment inventory through regular inspection, maintenance, and reporting.
    • Make equipment purchase recommendations to the Regional Inclusive Services equipment committee based on student needs.
    • May support students on field trips or in Outdoor School participation.
    • Manage student behavior during therapy.
    • Communicate with other healthcare providers and specialists regarding student evaluations and programs.
    • Perform other job duties as assigned.
