The PACU Staff RN performs clerical, plus direct and indirect nursing duties in cooperation with other nursing staff and Anesthesia personnel in PACU. The position also performs and assists with planning, organizing, and delivering quality patient care to pre- and post-operative patients during routine and emergency situations in PACU. Assists Anesthesia personnel in emergency situations in OR as available or necessary.
Works as scheduled or as required to fulfill requirements.

- Ability to perform skills to provide IV access, administer products considering size and volume of fluid needed to infuse.

- Ability to speak, write, and read English consistently to communicate effectively with others.
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse with the Oregon State Board of Nursing and Washington State Board of Nursing. Current BLS from American Heart Association is required upon hire. ACLS and PALS certification through the American Heart Association required or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Education and/or ExperienceEither previous PACU experience or critical care nursing experience preferred. Highly motivated and should understand that the success of the patient’s experience is dependent on their performance. For RNs graduating within the last 12 months, or RNs that have not practiced in an acute care facility within the last 24 months, and have not previously completed a residency program will be required to complete the CMH-provided program if available.
PhysicalDemands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance
Standing and walking most of the time while on duty is necessary. Must be able to push/pull stretchers and lift patients, unassisted, using proper body mechanics. Pushes/pulls loaded adult stretchers, beds, wheelchairs, crash carts and equipment carts. Tolerates bending, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling for 8 – 12 hours (shift dependent). Lifts or carries up to 50 lbs. Able to adapt to various degrees of lighting in clean, well-ventilated working areas.
Visual acuity to read and interpret monitors, computer screen information, and written documentation during working hours. Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment. Dexterity to perform skills for auscultating, IV starts and fluid infusion, etc. to perform skills independently when needed. Works inside. Occasionally will work extended hours or variation of usual shift and will be dependent on patient requirements.
Normal to corrected vision is required. Normal or corrected hearing is necessary to distinguish differences in monitor alarms, heartbeats, and breathing. Subject to physical and emotional stress of work environment. Must be willing and committed to safe management of potentially infectious diseases and the handling of toxic drug therapies. Required to use personal protective apparel. Subject to occasional physical and emotional stress within a fast-paced environment.
