POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Residence Life provides leadership of residence life and housing for over 2,000 resident and non-resident students in a manner that complements the mission of Benedictine College and as a team member of the Student Life Office. The Director plays an integral role in the formation of students and implements a programming model that facilitates outcomes in community, faith, and scholarships.

With the Student Life leadership team, the Director provides leadership and direction in the formation of the student body.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Serve as the Director of Residence Life by providing leadership, vision, administration for student housing and residential life programs, staff, and facilities, in collaboration with other campus offices and departments, including room assignments and billing; meal plan options; maintenance and custodial operations; residential living programs inclusive of student leadership development, educational, social, and recreational activities.
  • Sets the tone for the implementation of a residential environment that reflects our Catholic beliefs and culture, is positive and engaging, and challenges students’ growth as young adults.
  • Hire, train and supervise residential life staff.
  • Supervise and manage the residential life budget.
  • Review and develop residential life policies, procedures, and RD/RA handbooks.
  • Plan, implement, and manage housing assignments. Including, new student housing processes for freshmen, transfer students, and international students for the fall and spring semesters, as well as returning student housing procedures and assignments.
  • Manage communication housing assignments to new and returning students.
  • Continually review occupancy after Room Draw ensuring the residence halls maintain 100% occupancy through move-in day.
  • Organize and coordinate move-in policies, procedures, supply RDs with move-in rosters and materials.
  • Manage student housing rosters, housing records, occupancy records relating to all housing operations. Produce various housing rosters and reports as needed.
  • Develop, update, and maintain the housing application, room and board agreements, and office publications to effectively communicate housing and meal plan policies and procedures.
  • Develop and provide programs and services which address emerging student concerns and needs.
  • Make counseling referrals when such referrals are deemed necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Conduct in making appropriate disciplinary decisions and enforcing sanctions concerning residential student conduct affairs.
  • Long range and strategic planning for the residence life program.
  • Participate in enrollment and retention activities along with other offices of the college.
  • Respond to questions, concerns, requests and complaints from residents, parents, and the college community.
  • Serve in the administrative on-call role. Support the RDs on-call with emergency response as needed.
  • This is not an inclusive list of duties and responsibilities, and the individual will be assigned other essential duties as the need occurs.

  • Understanding and acceptance of Catholic and Benedictine values
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of higher education student development, formation, risk management, and legal issues
  • Ability to relate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Knowledge of current state and federal law and regulations and trends in the field of higher education as they relate to Title IX, Clery Act, FERPA, VAWA, and the Office of Civil Rights.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and always remain professional.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills as well as proven administrative and organizational skills.
  • Computer skills including word processing, e-mail, and database software.
Education

Strong understanding of and ability to weave a formational approach into various types of initiatives and an ability to foster a balanced Catholic culture.

Master’s degree in relevant field preferred

Experience

Three to five years related experience in Residence Life and/or Student Life

Demonstrated experience in formation and the ability to foster a balanced Catholic culture.
