The Adult Education Local English Language Instructor is responsible for the support of the Adult Education Program at the assigned location. This position is funded through grant monies and is subject to the availability of funds. This position is 10 hours a week and 42 weeks a year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Hold pre-enrollment informational sessions and orientation activities for adult education classes
- Develop a plan of study with students based on skills, interests and goals
- Provide quality instruction so as to provide the best opportunity for students to learn
- Coordinate and deliver on-going professional development activities for staff as needed
- Work closely with the Adult Education Director, Regional Coordinators, and Technical Center Director to provide guidance and collaborations necessary to meet goals
- Work with Advisory committee and develop partnerships with business and industry that create opportunities for students and awareness of programs
- Provide ongoing transition services
- Work with students who are not meeting academic and/or attendance requirements
- Assist and refer students to financial, child care, transportation, and other resources as needed
- Act as the advisor for students, following HCC advising practices, and attend campus advising trainings
- Keep accurate records and supply necessary information to the HCC Adult Education Program Director
- Keep records of materials and information received from the Director and share with tutors and students
- Perform other instructor-related duties as required
- Be a member of the Kansas Adult Education Association (KAEA)
- Attend Adult Education Staff Development on the state and local level
- Help develop and promote ELA literacy at the local level
- Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field. Experience in teaching, training, counseling, or testing required. Previous experience in adult education desired. - Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the various subject areas of the program. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, tutors, groups, and employees of the organization. - Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. - Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. - Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have the ability to instruct and work with individuals with a wide range of learning styles. Must have good interpersonal skills to encourage students to persist until they meet their goals.
