OR Assistant will assist the physician and/or the RN during Gastroenterology Endoscopy procedures, ensuring equipment is operational and reprocessing steps are completed per department policy. The role includes setting up endoscopy suites, overseeing turnover, collecting specimens, managing and ordering supplies, and providing delegated patient care across all age groups. The assistant supports the RN in pre‑op, PACU, and post‑op processes, assists with cleaning and sterilization of equipment, and helps with positioning and turnover of the operating room.
Responsibilities- Assist the physician and/or RN during Gastroenterology Endoscopy procedures.
- Ensure endoscopic equipment is in good working order and perform all necessary steps for reprocessing endoscopes per department policy.
- Set up and organize endoscopy suites, assist with GI suite turnover, and collect specimens for tissue pathology.
- Manage and order supplies for all endoscopy procedures and ensure GI Lab 1 & 2 are stocked appropriately.
- Perform delegated patient care by the RN appropriate to the age of patients served, following Standards of Care, Standards of Practice, and State Practice Guidelines.
- Assist the RN in Pre‑Op rooming patients, documenting initial height and weight, shaving the patient prior to surgery, and taking vital signs.
- Assist the RN in PACU: removing IV, assisting the patient with dressing, transporting patients to their vehicles after discharge, and preparing patient bays for the next patient.
- Assist with cleaning, reprocessing, and sterilizing equipment and instruments.
- Assist the OR RN with positioning, holding extremities for sterile prepping, and turning over the OR.
- High School or GED
- BLS certification
- Kansas CNA license or 6 months NA experience that includes VS, blood glucose monitoring, ADLs.
- MA certification, EMT certification, GI Technical Specialist completed GI Associates Program.
