Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Job Overview
The Cage Washer will be responsible for safely performing routine duties associated with cage sanitation and preparation for reuse of the assigned areas, including cage maintenance, monitoring equipment for proper functioning, and maintaining sanitary conditions.
Roles & Responsibilities- Perform equipment routine start-up and shut down procedures
- Maintain sanitary conditions of cage washing rooms and related areas such as hallways and storage areas
- Perform all duties listed on the daily schedule
- Operate motorized cleaning equipment and maintain daily upkeep of the assigned area
- Report incidents and hazardous conditions to the supervisor
- Comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures
- Stop at-risk behavior of others and self
- Perform work assignments in a team with other employees
- Perform repetitive tasks and maintain a clean work area
- Follow all protocols, company procedures, policies, and rules
- Take direction and respond to supervision
- Communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, coworkers, managers, and customers
- Fill in during staff shortages
- Use proper personal protective equipment and present a professional appearance and conduct
- Understand customer service and satisfaction
- Understand reporting systems and the environment
- Assist in installation of caging and other facility equipment
- Process all waste bedding material using a vacuum bedding disposal or HEPA filtered disposable unit; wear appropriate personal protective equipment when handling waste bedding
- Operate mechanical cage wash units according to department standard operating procedures and manufacturer instructions; report all deficiencies immediately to the supervisor
- Stage cage components into units using appropriate bedding and enrichment material; ensure cage components are in excellent working condition and report deficits to the supervisor immediately
- Operate steam autoclaves to sterilize equipment as required; ensure proper sterilization using cycle assurance indicators, record all results on the Autoclave Assurance Log, and report failures immediately to the supervisor
Education And/Or Experience
High School Diploma / GED with 6 months – 1 year of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
May be required to have a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Successful completion of Cage Wash Pre‑Screening Assessment required.
Ability to read and write in English to understand basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively with patients and staff.
Ability to understand spoken English to follow basic safety instructions and respond to routine questions.
Basic familiarity with computers; ability to navigate at a basic level within web‑based applications.
An understanding of GxP principles is preferred.
Physical Demands & Work Environment- Frequently required to sit and talk or listen; must lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must not be overly allergic to animals to affect ability to work with laboratory animals.
Monday‑Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
$20.00 per hour
