Food Service Cook / Cold Prep

Starting Date: Immediately

Reports To: Food Service Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary: Hourly wages and benefits as established by the Board of Education.

Purpose

Prepares a full range of food and baked products for school lunches and snacks. Assists in maintaining food safety and the cleanliness of all food service areas.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or vocational school equivalent.
  • Basic math skills and ability to apply weights, measures, and amounts in recipes.
  • Proficient knowledge of commercial food preparation, equipment, and food safety.
  • Health and inoculation certification on file in the District Office upon hire.
General Functions
  • Assist in food preparation.
  • Ensure all activities conform to District, community, and KSDE guidelines.
  • Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
  • React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.
  • Have knowledge of the appropriate operation of all kitchen equipment.
  • Implement the vision and mission of the District.
  • Observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
  • Implement and follow all District health and safety policies.
  • Maintain regular attendance as required, with disciplinary action for excessive absences or tardiness.
  • Assist the food service site manager in food service operations.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Prepare food items to be served in planned quantities at a stated time.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Know and practice basic principles of quantity food cookery.
  • Practice proper operation of equipment to assure safety and avoid damage.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment properly.
  • Follow standardized recipes carefully; weigh and measure food ingredients accurately.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Assist with service as needed, using established portion control standards.
  • Practice good personal hygiene and food safety.
  • Prepare accurate time sheets for each pay period.
  • Perform other tasks and assume additional responsibilities as directed by the Food Service Site Manager.
Physical Demands
  • Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend for extended periods; reach overhead.
  • Work in extreme temperatures.
  • Work with and be exposed to odors, chemicals, and a noisy environment.
  • Use hands and fingers repetitively.
  • Operate in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Maintain vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
  • Lift, pull, and/or push up to 50 pounds.
Terms of Employment

At-will employment.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
