Position Summary Information
Duties
The College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) psychology program at Athens State University invites applications for Open Rank Instructor of Psychology (Tenure-Track). Faculty at Athens State University support the University's mission of providing student-centered, quality education and are committed to the success of our students and the university. This involves teaching effectiveness, scholarship, institutional service, and professional and community service. During the 9-month contract of employment, faculty members are expected to be available to assist and work with students and respond to program departmental, division, college, and institutional needs.
In addition to the duties listed below, faculty members must adhere to the general faculty guidelines and perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Dean of Colleges, and the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.
DUTIES:
* Teach a variety of upper-division (junior/senior) courses in support of programs in psychology in a variety of formats (on-person, online, and hybrid courses).
* Develop, revise, and deliver courses that ensure quality and effective assessment.
* Work with and advise a range of students in psychology to assist them in achieving academic and career success.
* Engage in research/scholarship/professional development appropriate for a teaching institution to maintain currency in disciplinary field(s).
* Maintain office and student contact hours.
* Serve on university, college, division, and psychology program committees and assist with accreditation efforts as needed.
* Participate in the recruitment activities of the psychology program, college, and university as appropriate.
* Assist in the proposal, development, and delivery of graduate psychology programs and certificate psychology programs.
* Assume any other professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by administrative personnel.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
* An earned Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
* Experience teaching at the baccalaureate level or higher.
* Current standing as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or equivalent professional licensure as recognized by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling (ABEC).
* Ideal candidate will be qualified to teach a variety of courses according to their interest and expertise, such as, but not limited to:
Abnormal Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Drugs and Behavior, Human Growth and Development, and Tests and Measurements.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
* The ideal candidate should also have experience and be ready to work with student internships and related career-development student activities.
* Experience in advising students through mental health services career options, especially in clinical and mental health counseling areas.

Located in historic Athens, Alabama, Athens State University offers junior and senior-level coursework to community college graduates and transfer students holding sufficient credits from other institutions. Approximately 3,000 students each semester have selected Athens State because of its neighborly environment where over 50 majors and degree programs are offered, with courses taught by a supportive and exceptional faculty.
