Travel: Yes, 10% of the Time

Responsibilities
  • Assist in directing area office operations.
  • Assist in managing and supervising employees involved in construction, design, maintenance, survey, laboratory activities and/or office operations.
  • Report to the Area Engineer, who has full authority for approval of all work, and be responsible for area office operations in the absence of the Area Engineer.
  • Establish own work plans and priorities to meet set objectives; handle issues at the occurrence.
  • Assist the Area Engineer in projecting personnel and equipment needed for each project and respond to emergency situations or conditions to assist with office activities.
  • Conduct pre‑construction, Employee Forum and/or safety meetings.
  • Plan and schedule work of construction personnel and provide job training.
  • Prepare and/or recommend field changes and supplemental agreements.
  • Resolve public complaints and review utility permits.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience: Four years of transportation engineering. Experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent. Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license at time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.

Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in Texas, must meet Texas Engineering Practices Act requirements, obtain a Texas license within six months of hire, and sign an employment condition agreement.

Knowledge and Skills

Extensive knowledge of applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques.

Considerable knowledge of construction engineering policies and procedures, applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities.

Applicable testing methods, processes and procedures.

Expert skill in applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities.

Proficient skill in public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external individuals and groups.

Proficient skill in using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This position will be subject to random drug testing.
    • Please note that the Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation – 49 CFR Part 40, (e) – does not authorize “medical marijuana” under a state law to be a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for an employee in this position.
