The Athens State University Security Officer reports to the Chief of Security and provides comprehensive security services for the university.

Key responsibilities include:

• Provide courteous assistance to visitors and students.
• Assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors in locating buildings and obtaining general information.
• Safeguard equipment and buildings, lock buildings, secure windows, and turn off unnecessary lights.
• Conduct visual and physical checks of buildings, parking lots, and grounds at intervals by vehicle and on foot.
• Inspect areas for safety hazards.
• Maintain knowledge of campus rules and regulations.
• Maintain traffic and parking enforcement.

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• State Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission certification.
• Firearms certification.
• Law enforcement related experience.
• Valid Alabama driver’s license.
• Physical agility and ability to perform general law enforcement duties.
