What You’ll Do
  • Use a laptop computer or other devices to receive, document and close out excavation notices, both during normal hours and after hours.
  • Read and interpret utility maps/prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
  • Use assigned communication equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel regarding underground facilities.
  • Operate electronic detection equipment to locate and mark underground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
  • Perform light excavation with a shovel to expose buried utilities when necessary.
  • Provide accurate documentation and/or sketches related to all locates completed.
  • Receive and respond to excavation notices during normal and after hours in accordance with established time requirements.
  • Operate company vehicles safely and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Perform manhole entry using assigned equipment and safety devices.
  • Work in all weather conditions, during normal and after hours.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate specialized equipment and tools.
  • Reach overhead above the shoulders and horizontally; bend at the waist; stand and/or walk for extended periods.
  • Carry 3–5 lb electronic locating equipment for extended periods; lift objects up to 50 lb or more with tool aids.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
  • Follow all safety rules at all times.
  • Work a flexible schedule (some evenings and weekends) as ticket/production load requires.
  • Respond to emergency calls during a scheduled on‑call shift rotation.
What You’ll Need
  • At least 18 years old.
  • At least 12 months of verifiable direct locating experience.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience (preferred).
  • Valid State driver's license (non‑provisional) with acceptable MVR record.
  • Pass pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
  • Subject to random drug testing upon employment in compliance with federal, state, and company guidelines.
  • Proficient in hand tools and equipment (shovels, screwdrivers, wrenches, hand keys, etc.).
  • Carry 3–5 lb electronic locating equipment for extended periods; lift objects up to 50 lb or more with tool aids.
Physical Abilities & Exposures
  • Work alone in remote locations with arms above shoulder level, operate vehicle, perform fine hand motion, bend, stoop, stand, walk, and lift up to 55 lb while using keyboard and mouse.
  • Use portable ladder; work in confined spaces; climb stairs occasionally.
Wage Range

Utility Locator: $21.00–$28.00 per hour.
