Role SummaryWe are seeking a Senior Property Accountant to manage the full cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial properties while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. This role plays a critical part in financial operations, supporting property performance through close collaboration with asset management, property management, and joint venture partners.
The position is responsible for month end close, financial reporting, reconciliation processes, and tenant related accounting activities. You will also contribute to budgeting and forecasting while maintaining strong controls and delivering high quality financial insights that support business decisions.
Key Responsibilities- Manage monthly close process for multiple commercial properties ensuring timely and accurate reporting
- Perform general ledger reconciliations and maintain supporting documentation for all balance sheet accounts
- Record journal entries including accruals, straight line rent, and recurring transactions
- Review operating expense recoveries and analyze variances and fluctuations
- Prepare CAM reconciliations and support tenant audit requests
- Partner with property management and asset management teams on budgets and quarterly forecasts
- Maintain joint venture reporting and serve as primary contact for partner and audit inquiries
- Monitor aged receivables and coordinate resolution efforts with internal stakeholders
- 4 plus years of property accounting or real estate accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP, debits and credits, and full cycle accounting processes
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, vlookups, and data analysis
- Experience preparing financial statements and balance sheet reconciliations
- Familiarity with commercial real estate concepts including CAM, straight line rent, and tenant accounting
- Experience with Yardi or similar property management accounting systems preferred
- CPA or progress toward certification is a plus
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and manage priorities independently
