REPORTS TO: Elections and Voter Registration Director
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Merit;
Serves at the discretion of the Department Director.
PAY GRADE: Part-time/Seasonal
SAFETY SENSITIVE: No

Purpose of Job

Poll Clerk ($15.60/hour): Assist in the conduction of elections at the polling location. Provide customer service to voters, resolve problems, open poll promptly at 7:00 a.m., use computers and electronic voting machines, and perform additional assigned tasks.

Assistant Poll Coordinator ($17.16/hour): Assist in conducting all elections. Provide customer service, resolve issues, use computers and voting machines, manage poll staff, prepare poll for opening, and perform additional tasks.

Poll Coordinator ($17.94/hour): Manage all election duties at the polling location, oversee poll staff, prepare for opening, and perform additional tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Attend required training sessions and study station instructions.
  • Assist with setting up the poll on Monday before Election Day.
  • Perform voter verification, issue voter access cards, and operate electronic voting equipment.
  • Provide customer service to voters and resolve questions or problems.
  • Assist with closing procedures, including printing reports and completing recap sheets.
  • Assist with paperwork and ensure accurate record keeping.
  • Cooperate with poll workers and supervise poll staff as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Job Related Requirements (Schedule)
  • 6-8 weeks prior to Election Day – Training, 8-10 hours before each election.
  • 1 day before Election Day – Poll Setup, 1-3 hours.
  • Election Day – 14–16-hour workday, 5:30 a.m. to completion.
  • Optional hours: 3 weeks leading up to Election Day (Mon–Sat 7:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.).
  • May be required to work on religious holidays.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Must work cooperatively with others.
  • Vehicle operation – responsible for safety and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.
Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and a resident of Athens-Clarke County.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak English and be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Poll Clerk minimum requirements apply to Assistant Poll Coordinator and Poll Coordinator.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation capable of carrying election supplies (Assistant Poll Coordinator).
  • Some personnel management/supervisory experience preferred (Assistant Poll Coordinator).
  • Six months of personnel management/supervisory experience preferred (Poll Coordinator).
  • When assigned to Absentee Ballot team, Logic & Accuracy Testing team, and Ballot Duplication team – driver's license not required.
  • Reliable transportation's capability to carry election supplies not required when assigned to Absentee Ballot team, Logic & Accuracy Testing team, Ballot Duplication team, and Delivery team.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Board of Elections policies, procedures, and activities.
  • Knowledge of terminology used within the department.
  • Ability to compile, organize, maintain records and reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with poll workers, candidates, elected officials and the public.
  • Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non‑routine situations.
  • Ability to operate and understand voting equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments.
  • Ability to understand regulations and procedures of the department.
  • Ability to work with the public and operate all aspects of electronic voting systems.
Physical Requirements

This position requires walking, bending, stooping, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Physical demand levels are those for sedentary work. If assigned to Delivery Team – must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
