Payroll Assistant Position Summary
The Payroll Assistant is part of a customer-focused team responsible for overseeing and processing the University of Georgia payroll for approximately 25,500 W‑2 employees. Responsibilities include monitoring the payroll phone and email, triaging tickets through the payroll ticketing system, assisting customers at the window, and performing various general customer service duties. The position handles entry of employee direct deposit information, time approver updates, garnishment requests, document requests, and other administrative office functions.
It coordinates with the University System of Georgia, the Shared Services Center, and distributed departments on payroll-related matters such as basic payroll, time & labor, and front‑line support.
- Assist with Direct Deposit setup, including virtual appointments or in‑person service at the payroll window.
- Contact employees who could not set up direct deposit themselves to provide assistance.
- Serve as the front‑line support for the Payroll Department.
- Answer phone calls to the front desk line and transfer calls to the appropriate team member.
- Monitor the payroll email account, send necessary communications, answer inquiries, and forward emails to the correct team members.
- Act as a triage agent for payroll and time & labor tickets in Team Dynamix and Service Now, assigning tickets to the correct team members.
- Assist with payroll queries and data updates, including updating Time and Absence Approvers via OneUSG Connect.
- Provide payroll data requests such as wage verifications, employment verifications, and payroll metrics, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist with the organization of garnishment processes and ensure proper documentation is sent to the correct resources.
- Perform administrative functions: processing mail, uploading documents to the Content 7 database, phone management, ordering supplies, and paying recurring bills.
- Support additional payroll requests as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in payroll administration.
- Experience with People Soft or other HRMS software programs.
- Detail‑oriented.
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative work style.
- Ability to work with highly confidential and sensitive information.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
- Proficient to advanced experience with Microsoft applications.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer Service skills.
- Knowledge of payroll administration practices and procedures.
- Experience with People Soft–based HCM software or other HRMS programs.
Benefits Eligible.
Work Schedule8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday.
Salary$43,000+, commensurate with experience.
