The function of this job is the safe collection, storage, processing, and shipping of non-traditional recyclables including Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) as required by EPA, state and local government regulations. Duties include, but are not limited to loading, unloading, sorting, packaging, processing, handling and/or storage of nontraditional recyclables at the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM). Performing additional tasks as assigned.

Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform
Essential Job Functions:
High school diploma or equivalent with one year of solid waste or waste reduction experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Supervisory Experience Preferred.
Must possess or be able to obtain Forklift Operator Certification within 6 months of date of hire.
Must possess or be able to obtain Community Worker Supervision training within 6 months of date of hire.
Must possess or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within 12 months of date of hire.
Must possess or be able to obtain SWANA HHW training and HAZWOPPER certification within 12 months of date of hire.
Essential Duties, ResponsibilitiesEnsures compliance with national, state and local regulations regarding the proper storage, shipping and handling of non-traditional recycling material. Maintains the records including manifests for the CHaRM.
Ensures compliance with EPD storm water regulations through being the Storm Water Prevention Pollution Plan (SWPPP) contact person for the CHaRM and maintains corresponding records.
Maintains and performs record keeping for the nontraditional recycling program including the HHW sheds, as well as receipts, manifests, certificates of acceptance, certificates of compliance, scale tickets, invoices, and other general information of vendors and other entities which render services to the Waste Reduction Division.
Maintains the Safety Data Sheets for the CHaRM.
Assists the Household Hazardous Waste Supervisor with the daily operations of the CHarRM.
Supervises, disciplines, and evaluates performance of Household Hazardous Waste PT Technicians. Also supervises volunteers and community service workers.
In the absence of the Household Hazardous Waste Supervisor manages the CHaRM.
Unloads, loads, sorts, packages, processes, handles and/or stores non-traditional recycling (including HHW) from residential, commercial and governmental customers.
Drives basic pick-up truck to collect hard to recycle materials as necessary and assigned.
Maintains and monitors all nontraditional recycling equipment and material-handling equipment at the CHaRM site (balers, forklift, pallet-jack, densifier, bulb crushers, and more.).
Trains solid waste staff, community service workers, and interns in procedures and practices of collection, storage, processing, and shipping of the non-traditional recycling.
Assists with CHaRM events and programs. Assists with donations and basic organization/structure of the Teacher Reuse Store.
Assists division employees with processing of collected compo stables and recyclables.
Provides information and other customer service to students, residents, and businesses.
Leads tours of the CHaRM.
Maintains landscape and hardscape at the CHaRM, including litter control.
Maintains fencing and gates at CHaRM.
Assists with financial transactions (i.e., check and credit card transactions).
Performs clerical duties related to this position.
Performs Other Related Duties As Required Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of the Waste Reduction Division and the operations, policies and functions of the Solid Waste Department.
Knowledge of solid waste reduction practices, policies and procedures as necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities, including financial aspects.
