Construction Worker II

Position Summary

This advanced position within the Grounds Heavy Equipment division is responsible for supporting a wide range of construction and maintenance operations. The incumbent assists Concrete Masons with forming and placement of concrete and serves as a spotter during excavation activities. Responsibilities include assisting with back filling and grading for curb, sidewalk, storm sewer installations, and utility repairs, as well as verifying grade specifications for asphalt and concrete placement.

The employee operates a dump truck and demonstrates moderate proficiency with other heavy equipment such as skid steers, backhoes, mini excavators, and breakers. Candidate who does not currently possess a Class B CDL will be required to complete the in‑house Entry Level Driver Training program and obtain a CDL learner’s permit within six months of hire. The incumbent will also perform traffic control support across projects, report to assist with snow and ice removal, and clear downed trees during inclement weather.

High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.

Class B CDL and 2 years in the construction field.

• Operates skid steer, backhoe, excavator, dozer, dump trucks, and other equipment in support of civil‑related construction projects (utility installation, grading/drainage, hauling, paving/sidewalk, construction, etc.). (60%)
• Excavates and installs utility piping and assists with utility repairs.
• Establishes elevations and sets base for new pavement construction.
• Assists in asphalt placement as well as the forming and placement of concrete.
• Sets up and performs traffic control. Places and maintains barricades, cones and temporary signage.

• Knowledge of construction practices/techniques, including concrete forming/placement, grading, and job site safety.
• Ability to perform manual labor as needed in support of construction activities.
• Ability to operate heavy construction equipment, including skid steers, backhoes, excavators, dozers, dump trucks, and other civil‑construction equipment.

• Lifts up to 75 lbs throughout an 8‑hour workday.
• Stands/walks for long periods, stoops, bends, works from a standard and extended ladder, and works with hands above head.
• Performs duties under adverse weather and/or climate conditions (rain, heat, and cold).
• Drives as needed to perform job duties.
