Position SummaryThis is skilled work in the operation of moderate to heavy construction equipment. Equipment may include skid steer, backhoe, excavator, dozer, dump truck, and other equipment as needed for demolition, grading for asphalt and concrete placement, installation and repair of utilities, and other construction activities. Responsible for staging equipment, establishing grade, and setting bases for new construction; instructing other employees as needed.
May backfill, establish grades and trenches for pipe installation, excavate for underground structures, assist other shops, assist in asphalt and concrete placement, and perform traffic control as required. Certain duties may be required during inclement weather (e.g., snow/ice removal).
- Experience operating moderate to heavy construction equipment in support of civil-related construction and maintenance projects.
- Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans.
- Knowledge of advanced construction practices/techniques, including concrete forming/placement, grading, and job site safety.
- Class B CDL license and knowledge of CDL rules and regulations.
- Ability to perform manual labor as needed and to operate heavy construction equipment (e.g., skid steers, backhoes, excavators, dozers, dump trucks).
- Stand, walk, stoop, bend, squat, and lift up to 75 lbs. throughout an 8-hour work day.
- Work under adverse weather conditions.
- Driving as needed to perform job duties.

- Operates skid steer, backhoe, excavator, dozer, dump trucks, and other equipment in support of civil-related construction projects.
- Excavates and installs utility piping and assists with utility repairs.
- Establishes elevations and sets base for new pavement construction.
- Assists in asphalt placement and concrete forming/placement.
- Sets up and performs traffic control; places and maintains barricades, cones, and temporary signage.
- Responds to Grounds Department emergencies, including inclement weather events.
