Position SummaryThis is skilled work in the operation of moderate to heavy construction equipment. The incumbent will operate equipment such as skid steer, backhoe, excavator, dozer, and dump truck, among others, for demolition, grading for asphalt and concrete placement, utility installation and repair, and other construction activities as needed. Responsibilities include staging equipment, establishing grade, back filling, trenching for pipes, assisting other shops, asphalt placement support, concrete forming and placement, and traffic control as required.
The position may require on-site duties during inclement weather for tasks such as clearing downed trees and snow/ice removal.
- High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience
- 3-4 years’ experience operating moderate to heavy construction equipment in civil-related construction and maintenance projects
- Operate skid steer, backhoe, excavator, dozer, dump trucks, and other equipment in support of civil-related construction projects
- Excavate and install utility piping and assist with utility repairs
- Establish elevations and set bases for new pavement construction
- Assist in asphalt placement and in the forming and placement of concrete
- Set up and perform traffic control, and place/maintain barricades, cones, and temporary signage
- Respond to Grounds Department emergencies to maintain campus safety, including inclement weather events
- Stand, walk, stoop, bend, squat, and lift up to 75 lbs. throughout an 8-hour work day
- Perform duties under adverse weather conditions
