Music Coordinator: Advent Houston

• Plan and program weekly worship services in coordination with the Senior Pastor to integrate worship service theme
• Lead musically in worship services to best facilitate congregational participation in worship.
• Recruit, equip, and coach a team of volunteer and/or paid musicians for Sunday worship, maintaining the band composition and bench-building standards below.
• Coordinate music for other services and events.
• Schedule and lead rehearsal time ahead of each Sunday service.
• Recruit and develop additional worship leaders alongside the instrumental bench (see Worship Leader Development).
• Actively build relationships with professional musicians and students at area university and campus ministries who might be able to serve as regular attending band members. (See Networking Goals).

• Follower of Christ.
• Love for music and for the people of God to sing praises to Jesus.
• Skilled music background, with a preference for some experience in music leading in a ministry setting.
• Passionate about Advent Houston’s philosophy of ministry.
• Knowledgeable of audio/video equipment and software.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead a team of musicians.
• Proficiency in playing a musical instrument, such as guitar or piano
• Humble and teachable spirit.

Advent Presbyterian Church sits near the Texas Medical Center in Houston, right in the middle of one of the most transient, high-pressure corners of the city. We're a young church, still being formed around the beautiful truth that God initiates, with mercy, grace, and presence. That's what our name points to, the "advent," the arrival, of Jesus. And so we want to respond with sincere hearts, grounded in God's truth, and welcome people of all faith backgrounds, whatever doubts, questions, faith, or unbelief they carry with them.

On Sundays, you'll find expository preaching that takes Scripture seriously and applies it in very real world pressures that we experience in everyday life, along with worship that blends the old and the new. We're highly liturgical, drawing from the best of historic Presbyterianism and from sister denominations across time and place.

Finally, we take relationships seriously as a matter of theology, not just style. It shapes how we preach, how we lead music, how we disciple people, and how we think about mission, none of it happens well apart from real relationship. That conviction shapes how we think about our staff too. We don't just want employees who show up and do their job well, though we do want that.

We want people who belong here, who are known here, and whose growth as followers of Jesus matters to us as much as their output.
