Minimum Qualifications Position Summary
Summer Academy Lead Instructors are responsible for developing and leading academic-focused youth programs. Lead Instructors will develop an academically focused and engaging course in the subject area that will both teach and motivate the youth attending the program. They will coordinate in advance with the assistant instructor to ensure understanding of the course curriculum and the areas that the assistant instructor can lead.
Instructors will comply with all guidelines of program staff, including providing requested planning information like room set up, supplies, and field trip support requests. During camp, they will teach the course with the aid of the assistant instructor; keeping the program staff informed of any issues with the courses or with students. Instructors will ensure proper supervision of students at all times in the classroom, moving between locations, and on field trips.
All instructors must comply with UGA Programs and Activities Serving Minors policy requirements.
They will work up to 30 hours per week, typically for 1 work week.

Needed qualifications may vary by subject matter area, but generally include: a wealth of work experience and appropriate education/training and credentials pertinent to the program/course subject matter. Formal teaching certification is not required.

Physical demands may vary depending on the program/course subject matter. Most work is typically performed in a classroom environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings.
