Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

The County Extension Educator position is an exempt professional staff role with UGA Cooperative Extension responsible for managing the many resources offered by a county office. This work typically carries major responsibilities within a local County Extension office. It coordinates and distributes time as needed for the satisfactory delivery of the 4-H and FACS (Family and Consumer Science) county programs. A high level of independent judgment is needed to effectively carry out the essential duties of the job and the incumbent is expected to manage both Extension program administration and 4-H / FACS education delivery by developing techniques and procedures as appropriate.

Also, it is under the supervision of the county assigned 4-H agent and FACS agent and County Extension Coordinator.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

* Good communication skills - oral and written.

* Ability to work with various populations.

* Knowledge of Cooperative Extension 4-H program activities.

Physical Demands

* Some degree of physical activity, including lifting, is needed to conduct programs (e.g., handling animals, supplies, and demonstration materials, audio/visual equipment, etc.)

* Some standing and/or sitting for various lengths of time

* Withstand various seasonal weather conditions for outside activities.

* Driving as needed to perform job duties

* Teach 4-H Educational Learning programs in the classroom.

* Direct 4-H'ers in preparation for the 4-H competitive events including project achievement, judging teams, etc.

* Transport or arrange for transportation of 4-H'ers to various district and state events and if assigned, provide leadership for youth while attending these events.

* Incorporate the results of program evaluations and feedback in planning future programs and techniques used in implementing programs.

* Publicize programs and workshops offered in local county or nearby counties to clientele.

* Maintain office inventory of office supplies and materials as needed to support the 4-H program.

* Regularly participate in staff conferences (using them for planning and evaluation of joint activities) and share ideas among all co-workers, leaders, district staff, and specialists to promote teamwork.

* Utilize current research data and information on emerging issues in program development and teaching as mandated by GA 4-H.
