The Institute for Native American Studies (INAS) at the University of Georgia invites applications for the Director position. The Director will be a tenured professor with a terminal degree and eligible for tenure upon hire. The position’s tenure home is expected to be in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences; a courtesy or partial appointment may be considered with other colleges.
The INAS Director will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, serve as chief administrator of the Institute, preside over steering committee and faculty meetings, coordinate INAS programming, and lead collaborative efforts with other campus programs and the Southeast Native American Studies Consortium. The Director will also serve as UGA’s liaison with tribal research partners and affiliates.
Terminal degree in the applicant’s area of specialization.
Additional RequirementsTo be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as an associate or full professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or CompetenciesApplicants should demonstrate an active research agenda in a field related to Native American studies, broadly defined, with global Indigenous comparative approaches welcome. The successful candidate will possess administrative expertise and be committed to multidisciplinary collaboration that advances Native American Studies across the university and with the public.
Responsibilities- Administer and grow the Institute for Native American Studies.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
- Preside over steering committees and faculty meetings.
- Coordinate INAS programming and public outreach.
- Develop curriculum in collaboration with affiliated faculty.
- Engage in student and faculty outreach, including partnerships with tribal research partners.
- Represent UGA to external partners and the Southeast Native American Studies Consortium.
