Assistant Professor – Row Crop Entomologist
SummaryThe Department of Entomology at the University of Georgia (UGA), Tifton Campus, invites applications for a 9‑month tenure‑track Assistant Professor position focusing on row crop integrated pest management (IPM) with an emphasis on cotton. The position is budgeted at 65% research, 30% extension, and 5% service. Candidates should be able to develop a nationally recognized research and extension program, secure competitive external funding, publish high-impact research, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
Responsibilities- Develop a nationally recognized research program supported by competitive external funding.
- Publish high‑impact research in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research, teaching, and professional development.
- Design and implement extension activities that translate research findings to row‑crop producers, extension agents, and other stakeholders, using both traditional and digital media.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within the department, the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and the UGA Cotton Team to address problems in the cotton industry.
- Participate in departmental and university service, professional activities, and outreach.
- Ph.D. in Entomology or a related life‑sciences discipline.
- Expertise in IPM theory and practice, with particular emphasis on cotton and row crops.
- Strong record of scholarly achievement and excellent communication skills.
- Experience or interest in agroecology and related fields such as invasive‑species management, resistance management, applied toxicology, transgenic and molecular approaches, population genetics, landscape ecology, or precision agriculture (including remote sensing).
- One to two years of postdoctoral experience is preferred.
- Commitment to a tenure‑track career path.
UGA‑Tifton Campus, Tifton, Georgia. The campus provides office, laboratory, greenhouse, rearing space, multiple research farms, and required agricultural machinery.
