Position Summary:

The REACH Special Education Teacher delivers high-quality instruction and specialized support for students with identified disabilities in a charter high school setting. This role fosters an inclusive, engaging, and rigorous learning environment that supports students’ academic, social, and emotional growth. The Special Education Teacher will collaborate with general education colleagues, families, and related service providers to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and ensure compliance with federal and state laws.

Additionally, this position may include responsibilities of an advisory teacher to a cohort of students, guiding their academic progress, social development, and personal growth.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Instructional Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and differentiate instruction that aligns with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) and students’ IEP goals.
• Provide specialized academic instruction, accommodations, modifications, and related services as outlined in student IEPs.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to co-teach, differentiate, and support students in inclusive settings.
• Conduct ongoing assessments and progress monitoring to inform instruction and report outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, attendance, and IEP implementation.
• Lead or participate in IEP development, annual reviews, and eligibility meetings with families and the IEP team.
• Support school culture through active participation in school events, professional development, and community outreach.
• Collaborate with school staff to implement school-wide behavior systems and positive supports.
• Participate in data review meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assigning and facilitating self-guided coursework for students across all subject areas.
• Uphold the mission, values, and policies of the school.

Advisory Responsibilities

• Serve as an Advisor to a group of students, meeting regularly during scheduled advisory periods.
• Build strong, supportive relationships with assigned students and serve as a primary adult advocate.
• Monitor academic performance, attendance, behavior, and social-emotional well-being of advisees.
• Support students with goal setting, organization, time management, and self-advocacy skills.
• Facilitate advisory lessons focused on college and career readiness, character development, and life skills.
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and support needs.
• Collaborate with counselors, administrators, and support staff to address student needs and interventions.

• Ability to prepare and execute curriculum.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently, exercising reasonable judgment, in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate problem-solving skills, while maintaining courtesy, professionalism, and a customer service attitude.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of MS Office and database management.

Education and Experience:

• Valid State of Georgia Special Education Teaching Certificate (Professional Level or Renewable) in K-12 Special Education (or ability to obtain it prior to start date).
• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution;
